Sexto: Matter

                            What is Matter?

Matter is everything around you. Atoms and compounds are all made of very small parts of matter. Those atoms go on to build the things you see and touch every day like your face or food. Matter is defined as anything that has mass and volume (takes up space).

What is mass?

Mass is the amount of matter in an object. Mass is a measure of the matter in an object while weight is a measure of gravity’s pull on an object. We measure Mass in kilograms and grams.

What is volume?

Volume is the amount of space something occupies. Different states of matter will fill volumes in different ways. We measure volume in liters and milliliters.

There are three states of matter. Do you know them? The Earth has all three....

1. The three states of matter are: liquid, solid, and gas. Can you name 2-3 solids, liquids, and gasses?

Solid-

Liquid-

Gas-

2. Please create your own chart like the one below. Please write the States of Matter and the names of the process of change: Freezing, melting, condensation and evaporation.

3. Do you understand the comic?
